VPE Food Drive to benefit God's Pantry 

STARTS MONDAY, OCTOBER 5th

NEEDED ITEMS: CANNED SOUPS/ FRUITS/ VEGETABLES

To donate online just go to: [give.godspantry.org/kcfh]give.godspantry.org/kcfh and select our school from the drop down menu.  You can help our school win $500 AND help Lexington neighbors in need. All food donated will go directly to Fayette County families in need and will be distributed at the four pantries operated by God’s Pantry Food Bank in Lexington. 

MAP Testing

MAP testing for all students begins on December 1.  Some ELL students will take the test in my classroom so that they can receive accommodations (extra help since they are learning English). Please encourage your child to do their best and, if they take the test with me, to ask for help when they need it! I know the students will do great!

Students who take the test with me will most likely not take the test on the same day as their homeroom.

December Spirit Project!

DECEMBER SPIRIT PROJECT

Our December spirit service project is our annual “Giving Tree”.   Students are asked to bring used coats, as well as new hats, mittens, gloves, and scarves. Items can be placed in the blue bin in the foyer. All Items will be donated and distributed to the needy in our community.

We Are Thankful!

This week we talked about the word thankful and what it means. We brainstormed a list of all of things we are thankful for this year and then created a video about what we are most thankful for.

What We Are Learning!

We have been working on understanding the differences between fiction and non-fiction texts.  We have talked about the story elements of a fiction story and the text features found in a non-fiction text.  We also reviewed what an opinion is and how it is different from a fact.  We are getting good at stating our opinion about a topic. We can also write a fact about a topic after reading a non-fiction text! 

November Spirit Project

Our November spirit project is the  Firefighters’ Toy Program.  Students are asked to bring a NEW TOY to donate, which will benefit local children during the holidays.  Each class will walk to the fire station on Saron Drive late in the month and students will have the opportunity to present their toys to the firefighters. Students may bring in their toys beginning November 10th.  Toys will be kept in the classrooms until we walk to the fire station! This is the fifth year of participation for Veterans Park. Thank you for your support as the students learn about serving our community and putting others first.

· New Toys appropriate for children birth to 10 years.

· Toys should remain unwrapped.

· Dolls, action figures, learning toys, puzzles, books, hand held

games, remote control or battery operated toys, bicycles, etc.
