How Do You Say Hello?

Konnichiwa! Hola! Bonjour!

To celebrate the different cultures and languages at VPE, I would like to decorate the bulletin board outside the ELL room with the different ways our families say hello.  If your family speaks another language at home, please email Ms. Osborne and she will send home a paper doll for your student to color and a speech bubble to complete.  Thanks for your help!  jennifer.osborne@fayette.kyschools.us

Welcome Back!

I am so excited to welcome our old and new ELL friends back for an exciting school year! I am looking forward to getting to know our new students and catching up with old friends. 
One thing I would love to do this year is to build our multilingual classroom library. If you have any children's books at home that are written in another language that you would like to donate to our classroom library, please send them to our classroom. Thank you for your help!

READ, READ, READ!!!

SUMMER READING PROGRAM

VPE's summer reading challenge began May 5!  Students may log into their Scholastic Summer Reading Program account and record their reading minutes.  Each student has received their login information and practiced signing in during library class.  To help VPE reach its goal of 1, 500,000 reading minutes this summer, the library will be open for checkout on Tuesdays from 9 am to 11 am with the exception of the week of July 4.

May Spirit Projects

During May we will be collecting pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House.  We will also be collecting eyeglasses and eyeglass cases for the Lion's Club.  Donations may be placed in bins in the front foyer until the last day of school!

April Spirit Project

Baby Shower

This community project is focusing on babies, toddlers, and moms-to-be. Our donation will be sent to several  local centers helping young moms and children. Please bring in items such as; diapers, wipes, bottles, new or gently used clothing and baby equipment. Items may be placed in the bins in the front foyer starting April 7 – April 30.

March Spirit Project

Soles4Souls

The local non-profit organization AreUKind.org, founded by two Lexington kids, Josh and Jacob Griffin are on a mission to collect 25,000 pairs of shoes for the global non-profit Soles4Souls. Soles4Souls distributes new and used shoes to developing nations and disaster stricken areas all around the world in an effort to help break the cycle of poverty. Veterans Park will be hosting the collection efforts here and ask that you clean out your closets and bring in all of your used and no longer worn shoes any day between March 3 – March 28, any size, any kind and in any condition. There will be a box located outside Mrs. Fox’s Office where you can deposit your shoes each day. There are 300 million children worldwide who live without shoes, so together we can help to make a big difference.
